Find the government official(s) who can best help you. You can also visit Town Hall during regular office hours or call 603-823-8017. Call 911 for emergencies.
You can also find information about town services, ordinances and regulations, board meeting schedules and minutes, etc. on this town website.
The Town Clerk is your primary point of contact for official record-keeping and personal documentation. Contact the Clerk if you need to register a motor vehicle, license your dog, or apply for a marriage license. This office also handles voter registration, oversees elections, and maintains vital records (birth, death, and marriage certificates). If it involves a "stamp" or an "official record," the Town Clerk is usually the place to start.
As the executive branch of our town, the three-member Select Board manages the general operations of Easton. Contact the Select Board for matters involving town roads, the town budget, most applications and permits, or appointments to local committees. They also act as the Board of Assessors; if you believe your property assessment is incorrect or wish to apply for a tax abatement or exemption (such as for veterans or the elderly), the Select Board's office is your destination.
The Planning Board is responsible for the long-term vision of our community and the stewardship of our Master Plan. You should contact them if you are looking to subdivide a lot, engage in a lot-line adjustment, or propose a non-residential site plan. They ensure that new developments align with Easton’s rural character and our existing Land Use Ordinances.
The ZBA is a "quasi-judicial" board that hears appeals regarding the town's zoning ordinances. You should contact the ZBA if you have been denied a building permit and wish to seek a Variance (permission to relax a specific rule due to hardship) or a Special Exception. They provide a vital "safety valve" for property owners when the literal enforcement of the zoning ordinance would be unfair or unnecessary.
As Easton operates on a calendar year budget, the Tax Collector is responsible for the billing and collection of property taxes. You should reach out here if you have questions regarding your specific tax bill, need to verify a payment, or require a property tax lien search. Please note that while the Tax Collector handles the money, questions about your property's valuation should be directed to the Select Board.
